SPIED: BMW X4 spotted testing in India – to be CKD?

BMW will be bringing their much awaited coupe-SUV, the X4 to the Indian market next year. The X4 will be positioned above the X3 and is likely to be replacing the latter. Recently, a production-spec X4 was spied undergoing testing in an unknown highway.

2019 BMW X4 spied without any camouflage and with all of its badging and logos intact.

These pictures show the X4 without wearing any camouflage, thus also indicating that it’s launch is not far from now. We can see a coupe-like roofline extending to the rear can be visible along with exhaust pipes on both sides at the bottom and sharp looking tail-lamps. The X4 is said to have an identical wheelbase compared to the X3, ranging at 2864mm.

The X4 will be based on BMW’s CLAR architecture. This will also be used on models like X7 and the 8-series, heading to our shores soon. The coupe version of the BMW X3 will be longer and wider than the latter. The cabin of the new BMW X4 too borrows heavily from the new-generation X3.

The second-generation BMW X4 will come to India via the CKD route, and assembly will take place at the company’s Chennai facility.

Engine-wise, the X4 is likely to carry forward the same set of engines seen on the X3. This includes a 2.0-litre petrol engine producing 252 BHP of power and 350 Nm of torque along with the option of a 2.0-litre diesel motor giving 190 BHP of power and 400 Nm of torque. Both these engines will come mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission.

BMW will look to launch the X4 at a price just below the Rs. 60 lakh mark. The X4 will have its rivals in the form of the Mercedes-Benz GLC and the Land Rover Discovery Sport. BMW will hope that the X4 will be able to replicate the success it enjoyed during the formative years of the X3 here.
