French Carmaker Peugeot is all set to begin its India operations in 2019. It has a slew of launches lined up for the Indian market. One of them is an affordable hatchback which will rival the Maruti Swift.
This hatchback is likely to be named the 208, and has been spotted with out wearing any camouflage. It will be the first offering from Peugeot to our market and carries a modern design theme. This entry level hatchback will feature swept back headlamps with projector lights, a large grille and a well designed bumper in the exterior.
Interiors of the 208 are in an all-black theme, dominated by a touch screen Infotainment system. The dashboard is designed practically and simple, featuring a three spoke steering wheel, door handles and AC vents get chrome accents which makes them look upmarket.
Peugeot is expected to fit in a 1.2-litre, petrol engine giving 80 BHP of power and 1.0-litre petrol engine giving 68 BHP of power. It will come mated to a 5-speed gearbox. Peugeot will also offer a diesel engine for the 208, but there is no information regarding it as of now.
Launch is scheduled to take place sometime in 2019. Peugeot will look to price the car aggressively, close to the new generation Swift, arriving this year, other rivals include the Hyundai Grand i10 and Mahindra KUV100.
