Expanding the Avenger range, Bajaj Auto today launched three variants of the Avenger – Street 150, Street 220 and Cruise 220. The Cruise 220 is basically a tourer version of the Avenger, with a padded pillion backrest, a wider handlebar and a windshield, designed to go far if long rides are your thing.
Compared to the Street models, the Cruise 220 gets a new handlebar for cruising comfort, lots of chrome bits, glossy paint, dual-tone theme for the fuel tank with insignia, 17-inch spoked wheels, wider rear tyre, raised handlebar, chrome exhaust pipe, cushioned backrest for the pillion and optional windshield for easy cruising. It gets graphite coated finish on the engine, instead of matte black as seen on the Street 220.
The Cruise 220 measures 2177 mm in length, 806 mm in width, 1142 mm in height with a wheelbase of 1490 mm and weighs 155 kg. Whereas the Street 220 measures 2177 mm in length, 801 mm in width, 1070 mm in height with a wheelbase of 1490 mm and weighs 150 kg, that is 5 kg less. All the three Avengers have a fuel tank of 14-litres.
Under the skin, the Cruise 220 and Street 220 are powered by the same engine featured on the older Avenger. It is a liquid-cooled 220 cc single-cylinder DTS-i engine with an oil-cooler that breathes via carburetor. Mated to a 5-speed gearbox, the engine churns out 18.8 BHP @ 8,400 rpm and 17.5 Nm of torque @ 7,000 rpm of torque.
The new Avengers trio will result in a sales boost this festive season for the Bajaj Auto as this rules monopoly in the cruiser segment, without any worthy competitors. The Hyosung Aquila 250 is much more expensive while the UM Renegade cruiser variants are still some time away from hitting our shores!
