In the next three years, Audi plans to reveal the 2017 Audi R20. Audi seems to be working really hard to get the better of the rival premium car manufacturer like the BMW.
The Audi R8 which had been through numerous modifications and upgrades has done really good in the Indian market and has played the role of Audi flagship really well. Now, the flagship will be transferred to a street-legal version of the German automaker’s very successful LeMans race car, the R18. It will be called the R20.
Under the hood, the diesel-electric supercar will have a twin-turbo V6 oil burner fitted to two electric motors producing over 700hp and 1000Nm of torque. The car will sport the e-quattro technology wherein the two electric motors will be mounted on the front wheels. The R20 will be equipped with Dynamic mode selector, Multi-functional black panel center display, Active-contour seats with integrated four-point belts, multi segment high-intensity windshield wiper and a camera-based surround-view package. The car is also expected to have a canopy-style cockpit with gull wing doors, similar to the R18.
The R20’s idea comes from the mind of the German automaker’s new R&D chief Wolfgang Dürheimer. The company will make only 100 to 250 units of the Audi R20 and the car will be unveiled in 2016 at the Pebble Beach event. Production will begin in the spring of 2016 and in 2017, a lucky 100 or so folks will get to ride the vehicle.
