The German automaker, Audi has recently launched the Q3 SUV in India with 2 diesel variants Base Grade and High Grade. A petrol 2.0-litre TFSI developing 211 bhp, that currently does duty in the Q5, is expected around September or October this year. In the lighter Q3, it should offer some serious performance.

The 2.0 TDI Q3 Base Grade is priced at Rs 26.21 lakh, while the High Grade is priced at Rs 31.49 lakh (ex-showroom Mumbai) for the Quattro all-wheel drive, dual-clutch gearbox variant. A cheaper version will come later, with two-wheel-drive and a seven-speed auto ‘box or all-wheel drive with a manual gearbox. At present, Audi doesn’t have a single manual transmission model in its Indian line-up making the latter a first for Audi here if it comes.

The petrol Q3 is considerably more powerful in comparison with the BMW X1’s 2.0-litre unit. The petrol model for BMW is an entry-level offering whereas Audi will position the Q3 as a performance variant.
