Audi has unveiled its Crosslane Coupe Concept at the 2012 Paris Motor Show. The company says that Crosslane Coupe will fit below the Q3 and will compete with the likes of the Mini Countryman/Paceman. Known as the Audi Crosslane Coupe Concept, the study provides a glimpse of the future shape of design of the brand’s future Q models.
The Crosslane Coupe is a combination of a crossover, coupe and convertible. It is a two-seater with an efficient petrol engine and two electric motors all in one. Extensive use of aluminum and carbon fiber are seen in its construction and it is this that results in the vehicle being at a total weight of 1390kg. Audi have used semi-aniline leather for the upholstery. The vehicle floor is made from glass fibre-reinforced polymer.
Power comes from a 1.5-liter 3-cylinder TFSO engine mated to two electric motors that help fuel-economy of only 1.1 liter per 100 kms (90.9 kmpl). The Audi Crosslane Coupe Concept is capable of going from 0 to 100 kph in 8.6 seconds with a top speed of 182 kmph. Equipped with an electric motor with 17.4 kWh lithium ion battery, the Crosslane Coupe Concept produces a total of 177-hp and provides a fully-electric driving range of 86 kms.
With just the electric motor propelling it, the Crosslane Coupe will cover a distance of 86km before the petrol engine kicks in. Till speeds of 55kmph, the larger electric motor works and post that, the entire powertrain works in tandem till 128kmph. Speeds above that are solely handled by the petrol motor, with the smaller electric motor providing a boost if required.
The drive of the potential Audi Crosslane Coupe Concept also has the choice of three driving modes including Cruise, Race and Normal.
