German automaker Audi could launch the A3 sedan in India by 2013-14, as revealed by Mr Peter Schwarzenbauer, the board member of Audi AG to a team of Indian journalists. Audi seems to have done the latter and has become very ambitious about the Indian car market. With almost all top cars already launched, it’s time to launch entry level affordable vehicles in India.
The first affordable Audi to roll out in India would be the Q3 at the 2012 Auto Expo. The Audi A3 saloon will follow it and would undercut the Q3 by a significant margin. The concept on which the production car is based was unveiled at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show and is seen as the next big launch that could hot up this segment of the market. It is being speculated that Audi could price the A3 sedan as low as Rs 20 lakh making it the cheapest offering from the Audi stables in India.
However launch is still quite far away as the company looks to unveil it at the 2014 Auto Expo. This gives a significant amount of time for its German rivals to react. Could we see a low cost BMW and Mercedes car which would be priced around the Rs. 20 lakh mark? We certainly hope so.
