Japanese auto-maker Honda recently showcased the next-generation Amaze at the 2018 Auto Expo. At the event, Honda Co & president Yaichiro Venice hinted at launching new models based on the platform of the Amaze. It may seem a difficult task considering that only Tata have done that with the Nexon compact SUV.
Honda, currently have a cross-over in its India lineup which fits under the Sub-4-meter category. The WR-V cross over is under pinned by the platform of the Jazz and is selling in good numbers. This may convince Honda on bringing a new compact SUV for its India line-up.
On the platform of the Amaze, Honda expressed that it is more flexible and can accommodate more body styles. This platform is a modified version of the existing platform which under pins the likes of the Brio and BR-V. When Honda does plan an launching a Compact SUV based on this platform, it will be cheaper than the WR-V, given the low cost structure of the platform.
Honda is studying a feasibility of the sub-4m SUVs to compete with the Maruti Vitara Brezza, Tata Nexon and the Ford EcoSport.
Honda already announced that it has plans to launch as many as six new models in the next 3 years. Out of the six, we can include the new Civic, CR-V and the Amaze. It has not been revealed yet what are the other 3 models, so we can hint at its launch.
