Nexon-rival Citroen C3 test car spotted in India, launch soon

Citroen are currently working out a plan to strongly enter the Indian market. The French automaker will be officially starting its India operations from next year onwards, in the process thinking of bringing in a wide range of models from their global line-up. One such model is their upcoming compact SUV, christened the Citroen C3.

Not much portion of the prototype vehicle is visible, and the Citroen C3 is probably in an early stage of development.

A test mule of the Citroen C3 was recently spied in India for the first time. The pictures clicked show the C3 in heavy amounts of camouflage and it looks strikingly similar to the C5 Aircross in terms of its design. The C3 at the moment is in its early stages of development and we need to wait longer for some news regarding its features and specifications.

The compact SUV is set to be the first product that will be coming under Citroen’s C-Cubed program. It is internally codenamed the ‘C21’ and is set for an India launch soon. Reports say that the Citroen C3 will go on floors sometime during the second half of 2021.

The Citroen C3 will compete with the like of Hyundai Venue, Tata Nexon, Mahindra XUV300, Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Ford EcoSport, etc…

But what may seem certain on the compact SUV is the addition of quite a few features to compete with its class. The Citroen C3 will come underpinned by Citroen’s CMP platform which is currently seen on many of its European-spec cars. Citroen could give the C3 a 1.2 litre, three-cylinder Puretech petrol engine which could be making its debut here.

There is also a possibility of the Citroen C3 being offered with a diesel and more importantly a petrol-hybrid motor as per reports, though the displacement numbers on it are yet to be revealed. Citroen will have their task cut out in order to put the C3 on par with some of the best compact SUV’s available here. These include cars like the Hyundai Venue, Ford Ecosport and the Mahindra XUV300 along with a slew of other cars spanning from different automakers.
