Just a week ago, on the 15th of august, India celebrated its 68th Independence Day, the day Indians gained freedom way back in 1947. Over the years, people of India have started doing different things which define the word freedom for them, especially on this day. For a biker though, the word freedom can only mean one thing – ‘Hitting the open road’, and this is exactly what Bikers in and around Bangalore did, and they did it in style on August 15th.
This year, on the occasion of Independence Day, members of more than 35 biking clubs of Bangalore came together to organize a ride to Nandi hills – which is known as the perfect escape for a Bangalorean biker who wants a dose of some good curves within a few hours.
Nandi hills are located around 76 kilometers from the heart of Bangalore, and the organizers found it to be the perfect spot to break the record. Yes, this year’s edition of the Independence ride got an official entry into the Limca book of world records for the highest number of bikers gathering and riding for a social cause. Over 2000 bikers made their presence felt at this ride, and the joy of biking brotherhood was found by everyone who participated in this ride.
The ride was very well organized, considering the number of motorcycles participating, and this is the ride of which every single biker should be proud of, as it brilliantly showcased the diversity in the biking scene here. Two-wheelers participating in this ride ranged from small scooters like Yamaha Ray’s and the like, going up all the way to the best superbikes and sportbikes out there and even the biggest cruisers like the Honda Goldwing.
Vespa’s, Pulsar’s, Apache’s, KTM Duke’s and RC’s, Royal Enfield’s, Harleys, Superbikes from Yamaha, Honda, Kawasaki and even Aprilia and Ducati !! This ride had it all, and this made me as an automobile journalist and Biker, feel very proud indeed, of the Indian biking fraternity and its diversity.
This Independence Day was truly a display of freedom for me and more than 2000 other bikers.
