BMW India has today officially launched the third generation X5 in India at a price tag of Rs. 70.90 lakh (Ex-showroom, pan-India). At the moment, the new X5 available in a single variant – xDrive 30d, powered by a 3.0-litre V6 twin turbo diesel motor mated to a 8-speed automatic transmission. BMW’s die-hard fan, Sachin Tendulkar added grace to the SUV’s launch ceremony.

On the exterior, the new X5 follows BMW’s new design language. The front bumper gets L shaped air dams under the round fog lamps assembly, it gets headlamps with adaptive LEDs and larger grille than its predecessor. The rear looks quite similar to the old car except for the edgy lines. However, due to weight saving measures adopted in its construction, it manages to be lighter than the old car.
On the inside, the company has made huge changes with an entirely new dashboard layout wrapped in black and beige leather with darker wood inserts. Equipment includes a 10.2” inch display in the centre of the dashboard, an iDrive touch controller, Harman Kardonn audio system, satellite navigation, Bluetooth and USB connectivity, climate control, parking cameras and panorama glass sunroof.

Under the hood, BMW X5 xDrive 30D is powered by an in-line six-cylinder 3.0-litre V6 twin turbo charged diesel motor zooming the power of 258 bhp and torque of 559Nm. It is coated with ZF 8-speed transmission system which forwards the power to both front and rear wheels.The powertrain propels the X5 from 0-100kmph in 6.9 seconds with a top whack of 230kmph. The vehicle delivers a certified fuel economy of 15.35kmpl. The new X5 rides on 18” inch radial.
