Tata Motors today launched the new Tata Sumo Gold at a starting price of Rs 5.93 lakh (ex-showroom, New Delhi), as part of the company’s Horizonnext strategy for its passenger vehicles. The new Sumo Gold is just more than a normal facelift that we get to see nowadays. The new Sumo Gold is available at Tata Motors showrooms across the country. This is Tata Motors efforts to make their one of the longest surviving workhorses more reliable and comfortable.
Compared to the outgoing model, the new Sumo Gold features first-in-segment powerful Dual AC, latest music system with USB and Bluetooth support, with hands free mobile phone reception, softened suspension. Other features include best-in-class ground clearance of 182mm, best-in-class turning radius of 5m and returning a splendid fuel economy of 15.3 kmpl (we are not sure whether this is ARAI certified figure), making it a pleasure to drive anywhere.
The new Sumo Gold is available in 5 variants – GX, FX, EX, LX & CX, and is available in 4 new stylish colors – Blazing Red, Twilight Grey Arctic Silver and Porcelain White, along with 3 year/1 lakh kms. The new model wears a broad stable stance and a visual blitzkrieg of stylish new body graphics. It also gets revised front grill, new headlamp design and several other updates. This model will compete with the Bolero in the entry-level SUV segment.
The major change is in the incorporation of a new high performance clutch, which Tata claims has better thermal stability that allows for smoother gearshifts and will have a 30% longer life than the conventional units, offering 1 lakh kms of tension free driving. Fuel Filter Replacement has been improved by 50% at 45000 kms. Along with improved braking, the new Sumo Gold also comes with improved clutch life by over 30%.
