Toyota will be raring to give their popular pepole mover, the Innova Crysta a much needed mid-life cycle facelift. This will also be the very first time that the MPV will be undergoing an update since its launch here in early 2016. The facelift is expected to be rolling out here soon, most probably during the beginning of 2021.
Toyota may fancy their chances bringing it here due to the recent drop in demand experienced by the MPV. The Innova Crysta managed to sell 2,943 units in August 2020, which is a far lesser number as compared to the 4,796 units sold during August 2019. This has resulted in a 39 percent sales drop to be precise between both the time periods.
Recently, images of the facelifted Innova Crysta came out, albeit in 3D form. This could potentially be the same as one on the pipeline for an early 2021 launch. The facelifted Innova Crysta features new LED headlamps, a revised grille and bumper along with a new set of alloy wheels on the front.
The rear more or less remains the same, with only minor detailing done to the tail-lamps. Toyota might provide the facelift a bigger touchscreen infotainment system which comes with the services of Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Other than that, we can expect it to carry a few more changes like new detailing on the cabin and seats.
Mechanically, the Innova Crysta facelift will borrow the same set of engines as seen on the current model. This includes a range consisting of a 2.7 litre petrol motor and a 2.4 litre diesel one. The former is capable of delivering 166 BHP of power and 250 Nm of torque.
On the other hand, the latter comes with an output of 150 BHP power along with 360 Nm torque. Both these engines are available with options of either a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission. Toyota will follow it up with the Fortuner facelift, which is also on the horizon for quite a while now.
Coming back to the Innova Crysta facelift, we can expect it to command a slight premium as compared to the model which is currently on sale now. The Innova Crysta retails at a starting price of Rs.18.33 lakh (ex-showroom, New Delhi), which goes all the way to Rs.28 lakh for the top trims. The Innova Crysta currently does not have a suitable rival, thus it is pitted against the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga and the Kia Carnival, where it gets slotted between both.
