Audi India are seriously looking on regaining some lost ground in our market. The last couple of years have not been that pleasant for the automaker here, by virtue of which it has fallen a bit behind in the luxury segments. But the year 2020 has seen the automaker launch a slew of products from the RS Q8 to the Q2 to counter the drop in demand.
Now it looks like Audi have still not given up on launching new additions to their line-up, with the automaker expected to pull another ace up its sleeve. The next of the models to be coming here could be the updated model of the S5 Sportback. The four-door coupe will be making a comeback to the market, albeit as a facelift.
Audi are slated to bring the S5 Sportback here by the end of 2020. Thus, we can expect the automaker to soon commence bookings for the given model. The facelifted model of the S5 Sportback was first revealed during the 2019 Frankfurt Motor Show.
It was scheduled to arrive here before there was doubt surrounding its launch. This was because Audi had shortly discontinued the pre-facelift S5 Sportback and looked to have no intention in bringing its update here. But as of now, the launch of the facelifted S5 Sportback looks almost a certainty.
The updated S5 Sportback will feature a redesigned set of LED headlamps along with a new grille. Coming to the interior, the car will be having a few slight tweaks to the cabin and infotainment system to make it more compatible. We can expect the India-spec model of the car to come equipped with a ton of features.
These include Audi’s Virtual Cockpit, drive modes, cruise control, automatic climate control and ambient lighting to name a few. On the safety front, the S5 Sportback will come equipped with multiple airbags, ABS with EBD, Electronic Stability Control, rear parking sensors and a tyre pressure monitor. The S5 Sportback Is offered with options of either a 3.0 litre diesel motor or a 3.0 litre petrol motor in the American market.
However, the India-spec version of the car will only receive the above petrol motor. This motor is capable enough of delivering 349 BHP of power and 500 Nm of torque. It does come mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission.
As of now, the S5 Sportback will come with a niche for itself, not having any sort of direct competition. However, the Mercedes-Benz AMG C43 appears to be its closest challenger and we can expect the latter to be kept as a benchmark while comparing with the Audi. The S5 Sportback Is likely to retail with a price tag of around Rs.70 lakh by the time of its launch in India.
