Hyundai have recently revealed the Elantra Sport, days before it makes its global debut. The Korean automaker will be unveiling the Elantra Sport at the Los Angeles Auto Show taking place later this-month. Hyundai are likely to be bringing the vehicle to India, though its launch timeline is yet to be revealed.
The Elantra Sport is essentially a performance-oriented version of the Elantra premium sedan. It is based on the facelifted Elantra which Hyundai launched in the US market earlier this year. The Elantra Sport will be the same as the Avant Sport sold in the Korean market.
Both these cars are the same, though one is made for the Korean market while the other one for the US market. The Elantra Sport will be equipped with features like a honeycomb mesh grille, boot lid spoiler, prominent side skirts and 18-inch alloy wheels. On the interior, it will be having a red and black leather upholstery theme, aluminium pedals, metal scuff plates and a new instrument cluster.
The Elantra Sport comes powered by a 1.6-litre, four-cylinder, turbocharged petrol engine. This engine can deliver 204 BHP of power along with 265 Nm of torque. It will be coming mated to either a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
Hyundai are expected to start production of the Elantra Sport by early next year in the US. According to reports, the Elantra Sport is set to be priced from Rs. 15 lakh to Rs. 22 lakh when it comes here. It will be rivalling the Skoda Octavia RS, which at the moment, is the only performance-oriented premium sedan available here.
