Ford are all set to launch the Territory sub-compact SUV in the Chinese market. The American automaker will officially announce the launch of the car there on the 16th of October. As far as India is concerned, Ford are at crossroads on whether they should launch the Territory here.
2019 Ford Territory is based on the JMC Yusheng SM330.
The mid-size SUV segment in India is growing in popularity as of now. Ford, at present, do not have any representative in this segment. We think that the Territory will be the ideal vehicle to be slotted in between the Ecosport and the Endeavour in Ford’s India line-up.
When Ford does plan on launching the vehicle, we can expect it to come with both petrol and diesel engine options. These engines will come mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox, with automatic being offered as an option. Ford look likely to include a host of features on the Territory for India.
In China, the 2019 Territory will be manufactured at JMC (Jiangling Motor Company)’s Xiao Lan plant.
These include a touchscreen infotainment system, automatic climate control, cruise control, sunroof and so on. Safety features will be in the form of 6 airbags, ABS with EBD as standard, ESP and so on. There are also strong rumours arising on whether Ford will consider the Kuga SUV alongside the Territory for India.
If it happens, the Territory can be positioned as a comfortable mid-size SUV while the Kuga may act as a crossover SUV. When it gets launched, the Kuga will lock horns with the Mahindra XUV500, Hyundai Creta and the Tata Harrier.
