Ford Kuga-based premium SUV on the cards, launch scheduled this-year

Ford is planning on introducing a premium SUV set to arrive on Indian shores this-year. When launched, this will mark Ford’s entry into the highly competitive premium SUV segment in India. Reports suggest that the SUV will be based on the Kuga, sold in international markets.

Ford is currently developing the model and it is undergoing its final phases of testing now. Coming back to the Kuga, the car has a modern design so it will be interesting to see how will the premium SUV be styled. When launched, this will be the third SUV in Ford’s India line-up, after the Endeavor and EcoSport.

The Ford Kuga is available in both petrol and diesel engines worldwide. Ford’s 2.0-litre TDCI diesel on the Kuga produces 148 BHP of power and a turbocharged 1.5-litre engine produces 118 BHP of power. Both come mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox.

Ford is expected to launch the premium SUV in the latter half of 2018, after the launch of the Figo cross. Prices are expected to start from Rs. 13 lakhs and go all the way to Rs. 20 lakhs. It will rival the likes of the Jeep Compass, Hyundai Creta, Renault Duster, Tata Hexa and Mahindra XUV 500.
