BMW X5 M and X6 M high-performance crossover twins are not exactly the subtlest vehicles around. Sure, both models may have hailed from more vanilla variants, but the addition of a M TwinPower Turbo V8 engine producing 567 hp and 750 Nm of torque promises family-unfriendly performance.
Now BMW’s M Division has officially launched the 2015 BMW X5 M Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV) and BMW X6 M Sports Activity Coupe (SAC) in India, priced at Rs 1.55 crore and Rs 1.6 crore (all prices ex-showroom, India) respectively. Both models are brought to India via CBU route and competes with other performance SUVs including the Mercedes ML63 AMG, the Porsche Cayenne Turbo and the Range Rover SVR.
From the looks of the grille with its double bar slats, and badge on the upper right hand corner of the grille, it’s quite clear to see that it’s either the BMW X5 M or its “coupe” twin, the X6 M. The duo will be sold through the BMW’s new M Studios in the country with the first recently opened-up in Mumbai and the automaker has plans to expand the network in cities like Delhi, Chennai, Bengaluru, Ahmedabad, Pune and Hyderabad.
The pair share the same powertrain setup – an twin-turbo 4.4-litre V8 engine seen on the M5 pumping out 567bhp and 750 Nm of torque. Both models have an xDrive Intelligent AWD system with Dynamic Performance Control matched to an eight-speed M Steptronic automatic transmission with Drivelogic. BMW claims that both the cars can reach 0-100kmph sprint in 4.2 seconds, with an electronically limited top speed of 250kmph. The claimed fuel efficiency is 9.09kmpl for both the models.
