Competition is heating up in the premium car segment with sales increasing by every passing month. The competition is even more fierce between the big three German manufacturers, and rivals, Audi, BMW and Mercedes-Benz. All three of them have come up with their own strategic plans to increase sales and get to the top. We feel BMW’s strategy for this year is the best.
The boffins at BMW know that the best way to beat the competition is to keep their cars’ design fresh and keep the technology up to date. BMW’s strategy for this year is to update all their products with the latest technology and to launch new products, so as to provide a wide range of products in its portfolio for customers to choose from.
Mr. Philipp von Sahr, president of BMW said recently in an interview that, BMW is planning to launch 15 products this year, and of the 15, four will be all new products and will be launched for the first time and will not have any predecessor. The four new cars include the mighty X5 M and the X6 M and these two SUV’s will be the first SUV’s to wear the high performance ‘M’ badge and we feel they rightly deserve to do so. The X5 M and X6 M were unveiled at the Los Angeles Auto Show last year and will be powered by a 4.4 liter, bi-turbo, V8 engine. Sounds familiar? Well yes it is, as the same V8 engine is used in the BMW M5 as well.
This monster of an engine is capable of taking both the SUV’s from 0 to 100 KMPH in just about 4.2 seconds and they will go on to reach an electronically limited top speed of 250 KMPH. The launch of these SUV’s will take BMW straight into competition with the Mercedes-Benz ML63 AMG, the Porsche Cayenne GTS and the Range Rover sport Supercharged V8.
The other two new products announced by BMW for India are unknown at the moment, but will soon be known. The other two products have to be chosen from among the cars sold by BMW internationally but not in India but are suitable for the market conditions in India right now.
Some of the products sold internationally by BMW, which also drew attention from the Indian customers are, The BMW i3, which was displayed at the auto show in Delhi this year, but an Indian launch was ruled out this year, but BMW said that they would consider launching the i3 in India at a later stage. The BMW car in which most people have a keen interest is, the BMW M135i, an entry level high performance car. The entire product line in the BMW 2 series might be considered for India as well, which includes the 2-series coupe, convertible, Active Tourer and Gran Tourer. BMW might consider launching the 4-series too in India and even the X4.
Well, it looks like this year will turn out to be really exciting for the BMW fanboys.
