Exclusive – 2015 Hyundai i20 fully-uncovered for the first time!

Hyundai i20 has been a runaway success for the Korean car maker in Indian car market, since its launch in 2008. The i20 received a mid-life facelift two years back in 2012 retaining the company’s fluidic design language. But Hyundai wanted to keep that going, and in order to keep that going, they knew that they had to immediately start working on the next-gen i20 which is scheduled to make its debut in October-2014 at the upcoming Paris Motor Show.

After Paris Motor Show the next-gen i20 would be immediately launched in Indian car market in September. But sources on the web reveal that, while the world will get this next-gen i20 as a replacement to the existing car, Hyundai India may call it as Grand i20 and launch it as a more premium over the existing car (and continue offering the current-gen), although nothing is confirmed at the moment. But this makes sense because the current i20 looks absolutely fresh and there is no need for it to die a pre-mature death!

Today it’s time for the covers to come-off the next-gen i20, thanks to folks at AutoCarIndia for snapping the firstever spy pictures of the 2015 i20 fully-uncovered. The design language is in fact very similar to that seen on the Grand i10 and the Xcent, with plenty of Peugeot influence on the nose. The A, B and C pillars look to be bigger versions of the Grand i10. The sharp C pillar and an equally edgy A pillar have a sporty look and the overall size looks larger. The rising shoulder line and sloping roof meet at the steeply angled C pillar.

At the rear, the Subaru-styled taillamps grab all the attention. Hatch door looks smaller with tall rear bumper. New alloy wheels are snazzy. In short, new Hyundai i20 is way ahead of current model in styling department. Features and tech bits too are expected to be highly competitive than current i20. Codenamed IB, the hatchback will be based on the same platform like the current i20. According to the trusted source, the dimensions of the new i20 will be 3980 x 1720 x1500, which is very similar to the current Hyundai i20 at 3995 x 1710 x1505.

Mechanically, the next-gen i20 will get the same 1.2-litre petrol Kappa motor producing 84 PS,  and the 1.4-litre diesel motor producing 90 PS will be found under the hood, albeit with some tuning. Both the engines are paired to a 5-speed manual gearbox, also the 5-speed automatic gearbox is expected to make debut in the new i20. Another offering will be a sportier variant of the new Hyundai i20, titled the “N” variant a performance version of the new i20, to counter the sporty stance of its main competitor the Swift.

Retaining the Hyundai’s value for money scheme, the new 2015 i20 will certainly be value-for-money and will attract buyers hungry for premium hatchback.
