Pics of a mystery hatchback with a taped up rear end is making the rounds on internet, and we can tell you that it’s a new Figo hatchback. Thanks to AutoCarIndia for sharing the first-ever spy picture of the car spotted in Pune, Maharashtra. The 2015 Figo hatchback was recently unveiled in its production avatar at 2014 Sao Paulo Motor Show.
Next-gen Ford Figo to replace current-generation hatchback next year.
The new Figo is of course coming to India, along with its sub-4-metre compact sedan – very soon, in fact. Production of both will commence from 1st April 2015 at its second manufacturing facility in Sanand, Gujarat. The new Figo is expected to replace the current Figo in mid-2015. And the compact sedan version based on its platform, will replace the ageing Ford Classic sedan.
Mechanically, the new gen Figo hatchback and compact sedan uses the same platform as the Fiesta sedan, that also spawned EcoSport; no changes there. But engine options will see some variations. An 1.2-litre petrol unit (only used by the Figo) will be replaced by a fully-localized 1.0-litre engine (based on the EcoBoost but without a turbo). Diesel variant will continue to be powered by 1.5-litre mill, doing duty in Fiesta.
