Just a few days before, we had reported about the next-gen Ford Figo/Ka sedan and hatch. Now, it has been spotted testing near Ford’s base, in Detroit, USA. As it is the home to all the bigwigs in the automotive industry, including Ford, the place is regular testing ground for new cars. As we previously reported, the car would use a slightly modified platform take from the current Figo, albeit in lighter form.
Since the test car was completely camouflaged, it was purported to be the Figo sedan, judging by the size of the car, the wheel size, traditional ford steel rims on the test car indicating that it was an entry-level car, the hexagonal grille and the wing mirrors, which were seen on the Figo hatchback’s test mule. Also, the boot was positioned to be very high, like the Fiesta sedan. However to give you guys an overall idea how the new sedan will look like, Noticias Automotivas’s rendering artist Rodrigo Losano made a projection of the same.
The car is expected to be launched in Brazil early next-year and will be launched a little later in India as well. In India, it would compete with the Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire, Honda Amaze, Tata Indigo CS, the Toyota Etios and the Chevrolet sail sedan. It is expected to be launched with a 1.0-litre EcoBoost turbo petrol and a 1.5-litre TDCi turbo diesel. Both the diesel and petrol would get a 5-speed manual transmission, while the petrol would also get an optional automatic transmission.
The Figo sedan is expected to replace the Ford Ka globally, while in India the new sedan will replace the aging Fiesta (Classic). Going by the Ford Ecosport’s success, one wouldn’t be wrong in guessing that the Figo sedan too would be a runaway success for Ford, if they get the pricing right.
