Toyota Etios Cross – FrontView
The Toyota Etios Cross was first revealed in Brazil a few months ago, and that was the time when we had speculated that it would eventually make it to Indian shores to, and now it finally has. The Etios Cross was revealed at the recent Auto Expo in Delhi, and while bookings began immediately, the deliveries are expected to start only after the official launch which is scheduled to take place in May.
The Toyota Etios Cross is basically a top of the line Toyota Etios hatchback with rugged, beefier body panels coated in matte black plastic, an additional bumper with a skid plate attached to it, redesigned diamond cut wheels and tougher, heightened suspension. The car will also come with underbody coating, anti chip coating and anti corrosion steel sheet to prevent rusting and can take a proper beating.
The Etios Cross will be powered by the same drive-trains that power the Etios and Etios Liva, it will get the 1.5-liter 90 PS petrol, the 1.2-liter 80 PS petrol and the 1.4-liter 69 PS turbo-diesel as well. Though all the engines are great and have excellent power and reliability characteristics, we suspect that the engine that will sell the most in such a car is the 1.4-liter turbo-diesel. Suspension duties are handled by MacPherson struts at the front and torsion beams at the rear.
Toyota Etios Cross – SideViewThe Etios Cross gets top-of-the-line features like rear window defogger, centrally mounted tachometer and speedometer unit with a digital clock, height adjustable driver seat, leather wrapped steering, audio system with Bluetooth, USB, Aux-in, CD player and remote control, steering mounted audio controls and OVRM integrated turn-indicators.
Since the Etios Cross measures under-4-metres in length (3895 mm to be exact), and has a diesel engine under 1.5-liter and a petrol engine that is a 1.2-liter, it is perfectly in accordance with the laws and can obtain the excise benefits and can ultimately be priced very competitively.
