Maruti Suzuki, the country’s largest 4 wheel manufacturer has just showcased the S-Cross crossover at the Auto Expo 2014 alongside the Ciaz sedan concept. The SX4 S-Cross is built on an all new platform and will be the company’s compact SUV offering. The company has stated that the car will eventually go on-sale in India and will be slotted above the Renault Duster. That means that the car will lock horns with the XUV 500 and that price, we highly doubt its success.
It will come with 4WD with a low range and a decent ground clearance to separate it from the rest. It may be meant as just a brand presence vehicle for positioning Suzuki as a slightly premium brand. The other vehicle which was joined by it was the Ciaz sedan concept which will spawn the SX4 replacement in future. It will be aimed squarely for markets like China and India.
The Suzuki Ciaz sedan concept car comes with wide chrome grille with large multi-element wrap around headlamps which hint towards a modern design philosophy. The car looks pretty sporty in concept guise and the same might just not make it to production guise in as sporty a design as the concept. It will have the 1.4-litre K14 petrol motor and the 1.3-litre DDis diesel motor that are found in the Ertiga.
The Ciaz in production guise in expected to come with a manual and an automated manual transmission. The two concepts are being joined by 14 models which are the variants of the Swift, Alto, Ertiga and Dzire. SX4 Cross and Ciaz are still in concept guises and will surely add to the lineup of Maruti Suzuki India when they get launched in India. The company is pretty optimistic about its future in India and two new cars will help the company’s cause of leading every segment it is present in.
