Compact crossovers are the future of the sub Rs. 10 lakh segment as every company wants to have a compact crossover offering in their lineup. Chevrolet, however has still not entered the segment and has showcased the Adra concept at the Auto Expo 2014 which in its production guise will be a sub-4-metre SUV. The car has been designed entirely in India at the company’s technical centre in Bangalore.
The Adra adopts traditional global Chevrolet design language while addressing local customer expectations to cater to the next-generation of Indian buyers, the company claims. It offers all the advantages of a traditional SUV – like high ground clearance, all-round visibility, high seating stance and generous interior space – in a compact package. This is what the company has to say about it and it is true in every sense as the concept car actually has everything Chevrolet claims it to.
“Adra is a major achievement for our local designers who conceptualized and designed the model from the ground up. It represents a new possibility for the fastest growing compact SUV segment. “, is what GM India’s MD and president, Low Paddock had to say at the launch of the concept. The compact crossover has made its global debut at the Indian Auto Expo 2014 which pretty much showcases the importance of the Indian market for the company.
Alongside the Chevrolet Adra concept, the company also launched the facelifted Beat at a price of Rs 4.06 lakhs. The Chevrolet stall also played host to the Corvette Stingray, Camaro ZL1, Trailblazer SUV (might get launched soon in India) along with the Manchester united special edition Sail hatchback and Beat. The Chevrolet Master Eagle Phaeton, the iconic car for performance is also adoring the stall.
