Couple of days before we brought you the firstever spy pictures of Honda Brio sedan spotted in the streets of Thailand. Yesterday the company has invited a small group of about 25 media people to test drive the upcoming Brio sedan (which has no official name) and now we have more details & pictures shot from almost all angle at the event.
As we said earlier, the Brio sedan is scheduled for official launch in Thailand sometime in this-month. Dimensions of the Brio sedan will be similar to that of its hatchback variant, except the length. Brio sedan will have a wheelbase of 2407 mm, 62 mm longer than the five door Brio hatch (2345) mm available in India. Length of Brio sedan will be at 3990 mm, 380 mm longer than the hatch (2610 mm), whereas it will be 1680 mm in width and 1500 mm tall, same as that of Brio hatch.
The increase in length and wheelbase will mean that the Brio based sedan will be much more spacious than the hatchback, with a much more usable boot at 420 liters and the longer wheelbase which will release better leg room for the back seat occupants, instead of the hatchback’s city-minded seat. Though the Brio based sedan is bigger than the hatchback, its weight has only increased by 26 kgs.
In India, the company has confirmed the launch of Brio sedan sometime in next-year, with an all new diesel option, a first for them in the country. So far Honda has not offered a diesel powered car in India, but next year, it will not be the same. Many expect this to be a game changer for Honda Car India in the Indian auto industry. The Brio sedan will also be offered in petrol powered option, and you can also expect a automated gearbox on offer along with manual transmission like the recently launched Brio AT.
For the Thailand market, the Brio sedan comes powered by a 1.2-litre petrol four-cylinder petrol engine mated to a CVT automatic transmission which generates 90 hp and yet delivers a fantastic mileage of 20.4 kmpl. The diesel option is expected to deliver a mileage of 25 kmpl. Honda has also confirmed a MPV derivative for the Indonesian market based on the stretched Brio platform, to rival the Maruti Ertiga which will come to light in 2014.
