BA readers we brought to you the first images ever a month ago of the brand new, 2012 Honda CR-V. Now the Japanese carmaker has officially declared that the launch of the next generation CR-V is indeed very close. The new model, as we saw in the spy pictures, will be bigger than the current model, and will boast of more features.
The 2012 Honda CR-V is right around the car – Honda America has launched a new microsite teasing nothing but a tunnel with text reading ‘An all new CR-V is coming”. Honda brands usually discontinues it’s the existing/old model once it launches the new model. We can expect the same in case of the CR-V in India too.
“With a new design—both inside and out, new features and new possibilities, the 2012 CR-V will set a new standard for the class. As a top-selling crossover for over five years, expectations for the 2012 CR-V are high and we’re confident they will not only be met, but exceeded,” the microsite reveals. “Much more will be revealed over the next several months so be sure to sign up on this page to receive updates.”
The next iteration of the CR-V is expected to feature an uprated four-cylinder engine with a little more power and improved fuel efficiency over the current 2.4-liter lump, while the European version of the crossover will also be offered with a diesel unit. We’ve also heard rumors about the availability of a third-row of seats, but this has not been confirmed by Honda officials.
The new CR-V will have to compete with the BMW X1, Mitsubishi Outlander, Toyota Fortuner, Hyundai Santa Fe and yet o be launched Audi Q3 in India. Competition is immense and it will cause Honda to price the new CR-V very competitively if it wants to sell in double digit numbers.
More to come in the next few weeks.
