Tatas’ owned Jaguar Land Rover yesterday (4th July, 2011) said it has started the first ever production of its sports utility vehicle Range Rover Evoque at Land Rover’s Halewood manufacturing plant in Liverpool, UK. The Evoque is Land Rover’s attempt at making a crossover that looks modern and that would attract more young buyers to the brand. The Range Rover Evoque range starts at almost £28,000 in the UK and is available in both 3-door and 5-door configurations.
The launch of the Range Rover Evoque is just one of 40 new product actions that Jaguar Land Rover will carry out in the next five years in the most ambitious market offensive in the history of its two brands. This product creation programme is supported by annual investment of £1.5 billion in developing new models, engines, technologies and vehicle lines.
It was a moment to cherish for the people who make the new Evoque as the first production model rolled out of the factory. The #1 Range Rover Evoque will be donated to the British Motor Industry Heritage Trust. The company CEO said that the addition of the Evoque to the Land Rover range of cars has bolstered both Jaguar as well as Land Rover image. The company has already received 18,000 advance bookings from customers from different parts of the world.
Land Rover has also doubled its workforce to over 3000 employees in order to accommodate the production of the Evoque. It should also be noted that the Evoque will be exported to more than 170 countries and hence pressure will be high on Halewood factory. India is one of the markets where the Evoque will be making its way into. A 5-door version is what will come to India and could be priced over the Land Rover Freelander 2. The Evoque is available with both 2WD and 4WD versions with engines ranging from 150 bhp to 240 bhp across three variants; Pure, Prestige, Dynamic.
