Ranger Rover Evoque will be launched in India by this year. Tata Motors owned British luxury car maker Jaguar and Land Rover (JLR) first unveiled the Ranger Rover Evoque at the Paris Motor Show in September 2010 at a price of £30,000. The 5 door version of the car was launched at the 2010 Los Angeles Auto Show in November 2010.
Ranger Rover Evoque will be launched in 160 markets worldwide during this summer 2011. In India, this will be the entry level Ranger Rover and will be imported directly from JLR’s Halewood plant in the UK and therefore will attract 110% import duty. Hence we expect Ranger Rover Evoque to cost at least Rs. 45 lakhs*.
Rohit Suri, Head of Premier car division of Tata Motors has told Financial Chronicle that Evoque will be launched in India next year and it’s a very stylish, good-looking car that will have its own niche segment in the market, meant for people who can afford it and for whose lifestyle it fits. The Range Rover Evoque (both 3 doors and 5 doors) will be powered by a 2.0 litre petrol engine that makes a 237 bhp and a 2.2 litre diesel engine with either 148 bhp or 187 bhp. We have no clue as to which engine variant will be offered here. The Evoque will be made available in both front wheel drive and all wheel drive.
The new Range Rover Evoque is the lightest, smallest and most fuel efficient Range Rover till date. The Evoque is environmental friendly as the Co2 emission levels are below 130 g/km in the 150 PS versions. Range Rover Evoque’s interior has the typical Land Rover luxury. Evoque features magnetic adjustable shock absorbers and Terrain Response system from Land Rover. The five-door version of the Range Rover Evoque is set to be the latest addition in the Land Rover lineup, inspired by the LRX Concept. The idea behind LRX Concept was to fuse in a two-door coupe and a soft roader. Land Rover decided to add practicality and a family friendly variant to the LRX concept. The company thus modified the Freelander/ LR2 chassis and developed the Evoque.
For a price of Rs. 40 – 50 lakhs, today you can buy a Volvo XC60, Land Rover Freelander2, BMW X3, Volvo XC90 and pushing the price tag above Rs. 50 lakhs, there are worthy products such as the Volkswagen Touareg, BMW X5, Toyota Land Cruiser Prado, Audi Q7. Ranger Rover Evoque, however, will stand out of these SUVs because of its unique and more modern design.
Although, there has not been decision taken as to which version (5 door or 3 door) of Evoque will be launched, we expect the 5 door version to hit Indian roads in 2011. Jaguar portfolio includes XJ, XF, XFR and XKR with price bracket of Rs. 48 – 92 lakh. Land Rover in India offers models consisting of Freelander 2, Discover, Range Rover and Ranger Rover Sport SUVs with prices ranging from Rs. 63 lakhs to Rs. 4.75 crore). And with plans for assembling Land Rover vehicles in India and launching more recent models such as the Evoque, Tata Motors management and JLR in India is very much serious about increasing their market share emerging market such as India and China.
