Renault India’s entry-level hatchback the Kwid, is prepared to get a bigger engine of 1.0-litre on August 22, 2016. Once launched, the Kwid 1.0 will compete with the Maruti Alto K10 and the Hyundai Eon 1.0.
Unveiled first at the 2016 Auto Expo, the Kwid 1.0 is almost identical to its sibling Kwid 0.8, except for the black and white chequered decal with a ‘1.0’ wording on the lower portion of its side. It will be on-sale only in 2 variants – in RxT and RxT (O). Noteworthy features include a touchscreen infotainment system with navigation and driver’s airbag.
The major highlight of the Kwid 1.0 is the engine. It will be powered by an all new 999 cc 3 cyl SCe engine developing 67 BHP @ 5,500 rpm and 91 Nm of torque at 4,250 rpm, paired to a 5-speed manual gearbox, while an AMT variant will arrive a short time later. This unit is claimed to deliver a mileage of 23.01 KMPL, slightly lower than 25.17 KMPL delivered by the Kwid 0.8.
