The much anticipated Ford EcoSport is expected to end the wait in February-2013. Ford had initially chose India as launching ground for its second-generation Ford EcoSport, but it’s already on-sale in many countries including Brazil. The compact SUV has already acquired such a strong perception in Indian markets that many people are already looking to book it in advance without giving a thought to its pricing. The pricing is said to be competitive which makes it a keen competitor for the recently launched Renault Duster. By delaying its launch date, Ford India unintentionally offered the Renault Duster a free hit in the Indian markets. More details about the price will be revealed closer to the launch date.

The SUV comes with two engine options, the “International Engine of the year” one 1.0-litre capacity Ford EcoBoost engine generating 125 hp and delivers a mileage of 17kmpl, and the other a 1.5-litre capacity diesel engine which is the same engine used for Ford ‘Fiesta’. These engines will be coupled with 5-speed manual gearboxes and the petrol motor will be available with a Power Shift automatic transmission. The most popular feature about the vehicle is its smooth ground clearance.

Ford EcoSport has been spotted while on test in and around Chennai in numerous occasions while final touches and last minute details are being looked into before gearing up for the big day. Some information about the vehicle has been popping here and there in the company’s website.
