General Motors is one of the major manufacturers and sellers of passenger cars in the Indian market, Now GM of South America has confirmed that an all new compact SUV would be developed which is designed to compete the likes of Renault Duster, Ford EcoSport, Volkswagen Taigun, Hyundai ix25 and Nissan Kicks globally.

Mr. Jaime Ardila, President, General Motors of South America reported that –
“The new compact SUV will replace the Tracker (Trax) in the South American market within 3 years. Itwill be smaller than the Tracker (which measures 4.24 meters in length), and will be based on a new compact platform derived from the Chevrolet Onix.”
Once launched globally, we expect the all new compact SUV to reach the Indian shores as well. GM had also showcased the Adra compact SUV at the 2014 Auto Expo whose production is due until 2017. When it comes to Indian market, GM Engineers would build this new compact SUV under 4 meter length to get exempted from the excise duty.
The new Chevrolet SUV would be much smaller than the Chevrolet Trailblazer SUV.
General Motors new compact SUV is expected to be priced at INR 5.5-9 lakhs (ex-showroom). It would be available in both petrol and diesel variant. The petrol variant would be powered under 1200cc engine whereas the diesel variant would be powered under 1500cc engines.
