REPORT: Honda 2-Wheelers India planning for 500cc motorcycles

Honda will be keeping an eye on the development going on in the 500cc segment currently. This is because the company is planning a slew of launches in the space, most of which will be introduced next year. These will come from their international stables and Honda will look to cash in on the growing potential of the segment.

At present, Honda have three models lined up for launch which belong to the 500cc space. These include the CBR 500R, CB 500X and CB 500F, all of which are sold globally. Other than that, Honda are also preparing the Rebel 500 cruiser motorcycle which will be coming here later on.

Interestingly, the three have been updated to the Euro 5 emission norms in recent times. This will mean that Honda will not be having much difficulty in bringing them here. The Rebel 500 will also be carrying the same engine and Honda are expected to commence its development soon.

All of them come powered by a 471cc, parallel-twin engine. This motor is capable of making 47.6 BHP of power along with 43 Nm of torque. It will come mated to a 6-speed transmission having a slip and assist clutch coming as standard.

The CBR 500R is basically a full-faired motorcycle which will be taking on the Yamaha YZF R3 and the Kawasaki Ninja 400. On the other hand, the CB 500X will be the smaller and more affordable sibling of the Africa Twin which is currently on sale here. Then the CB 500F is expected to be the most affordable of the three, which will in turn rival the Kawasaki Z400.

All of the three will be launching here one after the other next year. They will be followed by the Rebel 500, which is reportedly set to arrive here in 2022. Honda will likely be pricing them in the range of around the Rs. 5 lakh mark (ex-showroom, India), which could give the customers a variety of choices at around the same price point from the company.
