The Ford EcoSport in due for an India launch in early-2013. Though there is no official word regarding the launch, rumours are that it will be right at the start of 2013. The EcoSport looks very similar to the concept that was premiered at this year’s Auto Expo. Ford India has already created a website for the EcoSport, which explains the car and its features in detail.

Now according to IndianCarsBikes, a few Ford dealers have already begun to accept bookings for the EcoSport compact SUV by paying Rs 25,000 to Rs 50,000. While this bit of information has no official confirmation from Ford India yet, the fact remains that this occurrence is fairly common in India, where the cars and motorcycle dealers unofficially begin taking bookings for holy anticipated products.

Furthermore, there are reports on the web which suggest that 7-seater version of the EcoSport compact SUV in the works. The 7 seat variant of the EcoSport could be 10 cm longer in the wheelbase, and obviously no reduction in the excise duty as it will be 4.34 meters in length. Therefore, it is believed to be priced more than the regular 5-seater variant.

The 7-seater version of the EcoSport makes sense for Indian markets because we would rather seat 7 people in a car a bit uncomfortably rather than 5 people a bit more comfortably. The main reason behind this thinking is that joint Indian families love a big car and they would love to take ride together. There is already an example in the Indian car market with Maruti Ertiga. The car is a 7-seater and is quite successful since the time of its launch.
