Bajaj’s upcoming 100cc commuter motorcycle to be launched in Jan-2013

Bajaj Discover 135cc - DTSi

Pune-based bike manufacturer, Bajaj Auto is planning to launch the most expensive 100cc commuter motorcycle with highly advanced features in domestic market. So far inspite of repeated attempts, Bajaj has failed to get the better of Japanese rivals in the entry level commuter segment of Indian bike market and now it remains to see if Bajaj’s can change the scenario.

All of us expect a cheaper price tag and high mileage figures, when it comes to the 100cc commuter segment but Bajaj Auto announced that its brand new 100cc commuter motorcycle would be the priciest of the lot, but they are quite confident as the acceptance for the high performance bikes is developing in the country.

According to the folks at Motoroids, the Bajaj’s upcoming 100cc commuter motorcycle is the most advanced 100cc bike in the history of the Indian bike market. And will feature a tri-spark technology (as seen in the Pulsar 200NS), it will also feature a mono-shock suspension along with a class leading engine specifications like a four valve engine head and a 5-speed transmission system.

The upcoming 100cc bike from Bajaj was slated to be launched in December-2012, but now there are reports that the bikemaker has delayed its launch and the bike will hit dealerships by January-2013. However, it remains unclear if the new 100cc motorcycle will be sold under existing Bajaj brands like the Platina or Discover, or whether Bajaj will launch a new brand altogether.

Bajaj Platina 125cc

Bajaj Auto’s Managing Director, Rajiv Bajaj has revealed, “Our strategy would be to do that through the launch of a new 100cc motorcycle in January. So far this year we have been defending our strong positions by launching the new 200cc Pulsar and a new 125cc Discover. It was important for us to first protect what we have. Now, we are going to enter into the 100cc space.”

“Honda has done that a little before with the Yuga. We are going to have a new 100cc motorcycle in the market from January. We think it is the most advanced 100cc bike in the world. It will certainly be the most expensive in this market but, we think consumers are ready and willing to take it. In fact, they are aspiring to move up to something like that. In our case, we are hoping that this product is going to drive sales and market shares from January onwards,” He Further added.
