Last month, at the EICMA show in Milan, Korean two-wheeler manufacturer Hyosung, unveiled the GD250N-EXIV naked low-capacity, high performance motorcycle. This motorcycle will compete with the KTM Duke 200 in the European market, but amazingly, this motorcycle will cost lesser than even the Duke 125, the GD250N will cost just under 3000 GBP (Rs.2.54 lakhs), whereas the Duke 125 costs 4250 GBP (Rs.3.60 lakhs) which means the Hyosung has already won the pricing battle even before its launch. The GD250N is a naked street bike with agility, weight, power, performance, efficiency etc… all in the range of the KTM Duke 200, and at a price lesser than the Duke 125.
Cosmetically, the bike looks very futuristic indeed, with the chassis completely exposed, aggressive straight lines all over the bike and even that liquid cooled engine being exposed adds to the aggressiveness of the bike. Speaking of engine, it reminds me that the GD250N is powered by a 250cc single cylinder liquid cooled engine putting out 28.4PS @8500rpm and 25NM @7000rpm, and is mated to a 6-speed synchromesh gearbox. This coupled with a dry weight of 130kgs means that the bike will have a very good power to weight ratio, which again means that it will be an amazingly QUICK bike.
The braking duties are taken care of, by a 300mm disc up front and a 230mm disc at the rear. The wheelbase stands at 1340mm and the seat height is 780mm from the ground. Features wise, the GD250N will probably get ABS as standard; it also sports an LCD screen which takes care of all the instrumentation.
Hyosung, together in its partnership with DSK motors in India, has on-sale, a total of 5 motorcycles and sales figures touch at least a 150 units per month, which is pretty decent, considering that their cheapest offering is priced at Rs. 2.8 lakh. The GD250N will be launched in India late next-year, much later than the European launch. does KTM have a reason to worry ?? Well, If Hyosung prices the GD250N as cheap as in Europe, KTM does have a reason to worry! 😀
