The sixth-generation Hyundai Elantra was launched in India in both petrol and diesel variants, spread across 5 trims: S, SX, SX AT, SX(O), and SX(O) AT.
Priced starting at Rs. 12.99 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi), the company has made it clear that the prices will be increased in January 2017. A total of 5 paint shades are on offer – Marina Blue, Polar White, Sleek Silver, Phantom Black, and Passion Red. Design-wise, the 2017 Elantra features Hyundai’s Fluidic Sculpture design all around.
The new Elantra is lighter and more rigid than the fifth-gen model. It comes equipped with projector headlamps with ‘boomerang-shaped’ LED daytime running lights, a chromed front grille, LED taillights, shark fin antenna, and 16-inch alloys. Other comfort features include start/stop button, electrically adjustable driver seat, ventilated front seats, and an electronic sunroof.
Inside, soft-touch materials are used. Note-worthy features include dual-zone automatic climate control, cruise control, anti-pinch sunroof, keyless entry, armrest for both front and rear seats, and USB/AUX-IN/Bluetooth capabilities. Furthermore, it gets an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system that is compatible with Apple CarPlay, satellite navigation, and Android Auto.
Sitting beneath the hood is either a 2.0-litre Dual VTVT petrol engine that develops 150 BHP and 192 Nm of torque, or a 1.6-litre, CRDi diesel engine with 126 BHP and 260 Nm of torque mated to both 6-speed manual and automatic transmission options. The engines get a ‘Drive Mode’ with Eco and Sport options. The 6-speed petrol automatic is the second generation unit, thus the AT model is more frugal than the manual.
