Renault India has recently introduced the automatic variant of the Scala C-Segment sedan. As promised at the launch of Renault Scala back in September-2012, the company has kept value for its statement. The launch of this car is a little bit surprising as the industry expected the Nissan Sunny to get the automatic variant first than the Scala.

The Scala X-tronic CVT will be made available across all Renault dealerships around India for purchase by the end of January 2013. The automatic variant of the Scala is available on the petrol models only and it is a CVT transmission that is in place. The diesel powered Scala will continue to be offered with the 5-speed manual gearbox. The 2013 Renault Scala Automatic will be available in RxL and RxZ variants.

These two variants will be equipped with X tronic transmission system and will be powered a same 1.5-litre petrol engine offering 100.6 hp at 5600 rpm and 134 Nm torque at 4000 rpm. The Scala automatic offers ARAI certified fuel efficiency of 17.97 kmpl, compared to the manual transmission Scala mileage which is 16.95 kmpl.

This makes it one of the most fuel efficient automatic sedans in the country as on date. Stop and go traffic situations in the country have seen an increased demand for automatic sedans in recent times. Meanwhile, there are reports that Nissan is also almost ready with the Sunny Automatic version and it will be launching it anytime from now.

The Renault has been mum about pricing of the Scala AT, but informed sources suggest an appreciation of over Rs 80,000 in the price.
