Yamaha YZF-R15 V2.0 discontinued, model off company’s official website

News has come that Yamaha have discontinued the YZF-R15 V2.0 from the Indian market. This confirmation had appeared after the second-gen R15 was not listed on Yamaha’s India website. We can also expect the YZF-R15S, basically the first-generation model to also be given the axe.

Japanese bike manufacturer, Yamaha has pulled-off the model from its official India website.

The YZF-R15 V2.0 was launched way back in 2011. It replaced the original R15 and came with features like a dual seat, rear LED tail-lamp, attractive styling and so on. The R15 V2.0 took no time to create a niche for itself in the market and became an instant favorite amongst enthusiasts.

A recent slump in sales numbers coupled with the launch of the YZF-R15 V3.0 did not help matters. The third-generation R15, which is an improved version of the V2.0, is seeing good initial demand as of now. This is mainly due to the more advanced features and dynamics on offer along with bold styling.

Yamaha YZF-R15S is still listed on the India wesite, but is likely to be discontinued soon.

The YZF-R15 V2.0 had a 149cc, liquid-cooled, fuel-injected engine. This motor is capable of delivering 17 bhp of power and 15 Nm of torque. It came mated to a 6-speed gearbox, which was very good back in those days.

Over the years, the V2.0 earned a lot of accolades from various experts, bike enthusiasts and automobile journalists alike. The R15 V2.0 came at a price of Rs.1.15 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). Let us all hope that this step taken by Yamaha will be influential in increasing the sales numbers of the YZF-R15 V3.0.
