Here’s another look at the Yamaha MT-15, as captured by the Indonesian spies. The upcoming naked-street fighter has shed most of its camouflage since we last saw it!
On the surface, the prototype appears to have been layered with the minimum camouflage – which would be an unnecessary move in the first place considering how recognizable the MT-15 is. As a result, we are able to see a single-piece low-slung headlight, possibly a projector, and golden coloured upside-down front forks.
The rest of the body parts like the exhaust cover, rear swing-arm, the engine, foot rest hangers, the rear mud guard and the famed Delta-Box frame are borrowed from the full-faired YZF-R15. However, the MT-15 will get a new tank extension, single headlamp assembly, engine shroud and single-piece handlebar & not a clip on; makes sense!
These spyshots revealed something interesting; the spotted MT-15 test-mule does not sport a self-start button on the right switchgear! Yes, we can see the ignition on/off switch but no starter button! Also we can’t expect the MT-15 to be a kick start only model. Thus, it seems to come equipped with the segment-first feature such as ‘Keyless Starter’.
The MT-15 is expected to draw power from the same engine as the YZF-R15.With the 150cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled, SOHC, 4 Valve engine, however, the power and torque figures could be tweaked. Furthermore, there will be different gear ratios to meet city riding style. At the moment, the details of this motorcycle are scarce but is rumored to make debut at least in concept guise at the upcoming 2016 Indian Auto Expo.
We’ll not be surprised, if Yamaha YZF-R15 Version 3.0 borrow cues from its naked sibling MT-15, especially the rear-end including the tail-lamps and tail-kit.
