As already read by our dear readers in our previous posts at BharathAutos in 2013, Volkswagen had launched the performance version of the Polo named Polo GT TSI and Polo GT TDI which has obtained the decent sales in the Indian market. Now Volkswagen plans to get its sportier hatchbacks available in the global market into the Indian market.

Volkswagen is planning to further decrease the price for the sportier versions of Polo making it feasible for the Indian buyers. Volkswagen would either import more powerful version of Polo GT which is powered by a 1.4-litre TSI engine producing a maximum power of 150 HP already seen on the entry-spec Skoda Octavia or it would import the really quick Polo GTI which is powered by a 1.8-litre TSI turbo petrol engine producing a maximum power of 189 HP covering 0-100 kmph in just 6.7 seconds.
The really hot 189bhp GTI that does 100kph in 6.7sec and a top speed of 236 kmph.
Even if all the parts are imported from the global market and then assembled in the Indian market, the upcoming powerful Polo GTI is expected to be priced at INR 17 lakhs. Main concern is how actually a hatchback priced at the cost of luxury Sedan and SUV’s already available in the Indian market would maintain the decent sales for Volkswagen.
