India’s first-ever Volvo XC90 T8 Hybird Excellence delivered, filled with wrong fuel!

MLA Bava’s brand-new Volvo XC90 T8 Hybird Excellence priced whooping Rs 1.65 Crore got delivered on Saturday March 25, 2017.

Couple of days after it was delivered Bava’s son took the Volvo XC90 T8 Hybrid Excellence to the fuel station in Mangalore on March 27, 2017 to fill the fuel for the first-time. Although he had clearly instructed one of the attendant to fill petrol in the SUV, another attendant dazzled by the MLA’s posh wheels came running and pumped in the wrong fuel, because he assumed such large SUVs are generally powered by diesel! (Also there are couple of diesel-powered new-gen XC90s in Mangalore).

The error was realized when Bava’s son went to pay the bill. The attendant apologized profusely for the mistake but it did result in the brand-new XC90 T8 Hybrid Excellence to be transported by a truck to Bangalore to clean up the tank and repair its system, as there is no showroom and workshop of Volvo Cars in Mangalore. Unfortunately, the MLA had to shell-out from his own pocket not only for transporting the large vehicle but also for servicing it, because it is not covered under warranty.

Here is what MLA B. A. Mohiudeen Bava said about the incident:

“As I was in Bengaluru for the Assembly session, my son had taken the new car to the fuel station. My son is craze for cars and on his suggestion, I had gone for this car and he has the best knowledge about it. Though my son had instructed him (petrol bunk employee) clearly to fill petrol, when my son went to pay, he found that the petrol bunk staff had filled diesel. The staff has accepted the mistake and apologised for the same. The dealers concerned have been informed and it will be rectified”.

He added “As the saying goes ‘to err is to human’, it is common to make mistakes and we respect humans more than machines”.

Before the incident, he had also stated that “He is trying to get fancy number 5555 for his car and to register it as the first-ever vehicle at the new RTO office at Suratkal”.
