Spied – Volvo XC40 compact crossover totally undisguised

Volvo XC40 compact crossover - 001

Swedish car maker, Volvo is trying hard to feature affordable premium cars that are currently being dominated by three German car makers. Earlier this year, we saw the new stunning looking V40 that was unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in March and now this new crossover based on the same B-segment car.

Although, Volvo is yet to confirm even the existence of this vehicle, the car was spotted by a flickr user, who was nice enough to share them with the rest of the world through his account, as expected the XC40 looks lot similar to the V40. So far, from what we know, the XC40 is based off of the current V40. Though because of the car’s “XC” nature, it’s essentially a lifted, more rugged Volvo V40.

Powertrains are expected to range from a series of petrol engines that produce as little as 148hp to as much as 250hp while diesel units are expected to range from 113hp and 174hp. According to the sources on the web, the Volvo XC40 will come in front-wheel-drive as standard, but an all-wheel-drive system will optionally be available.

Although no confirmations yet, the Volvo XC40 is anticipated for a full world-wide debut at this year’s Paris Motor Show in September. However, the Volvo XC40 will directly compete with the Audi Q3 and BMW X1, in the very popular segment. Of course, this is the reason that it may very well come to India immediately after its global launch. Almost 45 per cent of BMW sales in India are from the X1, while Audi expects to become the largest selling premium brand in the country with the launch of the Q3.

What we say? Volvo XC40 might be the game changer and opportunity for Volvo in India to build its name and also get us other interesting products.
