Buoyed by the response from the Indian luxury car market and in order to strengthen its network. Not to wait too much and loose, Volvo has decided to increase its presence in India by opening 5 new dealerships across India. This will increase the total number of dealerships to 12 which is currently only 7 in India. These new dealerships have been strategically placed at the metropolitan locations which are – Bangalore, Chennai, Kolkata, Jaipur and Ahmedabad. Volvo Auto opened its first dealership in March 2008 and currently markets its products through its dealerships in New Delhi, Mumbai, Chandigarh, Coimbatore, Hyderabad, Kochi and Pune.

According to a Business Standard report, Volvo Auto India Managing Director Paul de Voijs said that the Indian luxury car segment will reach 1.4 – 1.5 lakh units per annum by 2020. While luxury car market sales in India stood at 13,000 units during 2010, Volvo managed to sell only 130 cars. However, Paul de Voijs said that Volvo is optimistic about the market’s growth and will gradually become a significant player.

Volvo’s Goran Larsson told PTI that the company is expecting India to become the second largest luxury car market in Asia after China.

Expanding its dealership network will help Volvo to strengthen its presence in India, Volvo also hopes to increase the sales with the latest offering Volvo S60 which is a wonderful package of luxury and power priced between Rs. 27 Lakhs and Rs. 34 Lakhs. The Volvo cars are known well for their safety features and the S60 also packs a lot of innovative safety features built in standard.
