Volkswagen introduced the second generation of its SUV Tiguan, the first generation was not launched in India. Based on the latest MQB platform, the second generation Tiguan will be the first SUV to be priced in the range of 30 lakhs which will position in below the offering of other German manufacturers like Mercedes GLE and Audi Q3.
The exterior of the Tiguan gets a pair of angular LED headlamps with LED DRLs directly merged into the grille, large 18-inch diamond cut alloy rims, a small chrome element on the front wing, a chrome line that runs across the side, chrome underlining for the window line, and roof rails. Apart from the exterior upgrades the second generation SUV is longer and wider, but shorter and at the same time is lighter by upto 50 kg than the first generation . The new Tiguan measures 4485 mm long, 1839 mm wide, 1633 mm high, and has a wheelbase of 2682 mm. It has a boot space of 615-litres, which can be increased up to 1,665mm by folding rear seats.
The interior the SUV is equipped with a 5-inch non color infotainment display as a standard, while an 8-inch infotainment touchscreen is available as optional. It is also equipped with the largest panoramic sunroof in its class, and electric 4-way lumbar support and massage function for the front seats. A 12.3 inch Active Info display from the 2015 VW Passat, which displays the instrument dials and navigation in full screen is also available as an option.
The Tiguan will be offered in two engine options a 2.0-litre four-cylinder TDI engine and a 1.8-litre TSI petrol engine. The base version will be offered with a front wheel-drive layout, while the top-spec model will get 4Motion all-wheel drive system.
The new Tiguan is expected to be available to its buyers by the beginning of next year.
