Volkswagen is planning a crossover that is even smaller than the Tiguan as a part of a plan to expand its crossover line-up, according to design boss Walter de’ Silva who spoke with Automotive News Europe.
In order to appeal to a wider audience, Volkswagen wants to add crossovers of different sizes with different design elements. We heard last month the Volkswagen is even planning a 3-row 7-passenger crossover to compete with the likes of the Dacia Duster.
“Crossovers demand is expanding from mature markets to emerging markets and we have to cover this growing appetite with a multilateral expansion in the offer of our brands,” said De’ Silva.
De’Silva also said that the new Cross Coupe Concept is not a preview of the next Tiguan as we were first led to believe. Instead, the Cross Coupe Concept hints at that smaller crossover below the Tiguan.
V-dub doesn’t have a small SUV/crossover, In India being an emerging market could probably be in the scheme of things for the sub-Tiguan crossover although it is quite premature to speculate on whether Volkswagen India will bring the sub-Tiguan crossover to India.
