Competition in the compact SUV segment in India is heating-up. Every manufacturer wants to have a compact SUV up for sale right now, because they are selling like hot cakes. Hyundai, one of the top three car manufacturers in India in terms of sales figures too wants a piece of the action and have set about developing their own compact SUV.
This SUV is rumoured to be built upon the i10 or 120’s platform. Going by the looks of all the recent Hyundai launches featuring the fluidic design theme, this SUV too is guaranteed to look very handsome. According to a report, Hyundai will not be aiming for that ‘under 4-metre mark’ with this new SUV as they think that, by providing better features and a good quality product, they can justify the extra amount being charged.
Power-train options include 1.4 and 1.6-litre oil-burners, and the 1.6-litre petrol from the current gen Hyundai Verna, and transmission options will include a 5-speed manual, a 6-speed manual, a 5-speed automatic and a special 4-speed automatic for the diesel.
A concept version of the SUV is expected to be showcased at the upcoming 2014 Auto Expo, and prototypes will start testing on the roads shortly after. Hyundai is looking at a mid-2015 launch for this SUV, and knowing Hyundai, we can be sure that this SUV is another explosive success in the making.
