Volkswagen India has silently launched the ‘Made for India’ Volkswagen Ameo compact sedan, priced starting at Rs. 5.24 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).
For now, the Ameo will only be available in the 1.2-litre petrol engine that also powers the Polo and deliveries will commence from next-moth. While the 1.5-litre diesel engine along with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox is scheduled for later this year.
On-sale in 3 variants – Trendline, Comfortline and Highline, the Ameo is offered with several first-in-class like cruise control, rain sensing wipers, anti pinch power windows, front center arm rest, and static cornering lights. Further it is first compact sedan in the segment to get dual front airbags and ABS as a standard feature.
Under the hood, the Ameo petrol is powered by the 1.2-liter three-cylinder MPI engine capable of 75 PS at 5,400 rpm and 110 Nm of torque at 3,750 rpm mated to a 5-speed manual transmission powering the front wheels. The ARAI-certified fuel efficiency is rated at 17.83 KMPL. It directly competes with Maruti Suzuki Dzire, Hyundai Xcent, Honda Amaze, Tata Zest and Ford Figo Aspire.
Commenting on the launch of Ameo Mr. Michael Mayer, Director, Volkswagen Passenger Cars India, said –
“Today is a very special day for Volkswagen in India, as we introduce our first ever made-for-India carline, Volkswagen Ameo,” Moving ahead Mr. Mayer said, “The Ameo underlines the company’s philosophy of offering the best of technology and safety standards packaged at an attractive price”. He also said that “Through the Ameo, we are confident of cementing Volkswagen’s strong presence in the compact sedan segment and further expand the Volkswagen India family.”
