Hosur-based TVS Motor Company will be launching an affordable cruiser motorcycle for the Indian market soon. Christened the Zeppelin, it is set to go on-sale by early-2020. It was supposed to debut at the 2020 Auto Expo, before TVS withdrew from the event recently.
The Zeppelin is derived from TVS power cruiser concept of the same name, seen at the 2018 Indian Auto Expo. It had a 1200W assist motor with a 48V Li-Ion battery. This regenerative motor can drive power to the rear with the help of a belt drive.
It came powered by a single-cylinder, 220cc engine. This engine did feature a starter generator, having an e-boost option. As per reports, the production-spec Zeppelin will employ a 212cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled engine.
It will be based on the 197cc motor seen on the Apache RTR 200 4V. Power output may be at 20 BHP, while torque might range from 22-25 Nm. Testing phase of the Zeppelin could commence soon, with the motorcycle being ready before the deadline set by TVS.
The Zeppelin could retain the same design from its concept form, with a few minimal changes. It will come equipped with valuable features like ABS, front and rear disc brakes, Bluetooth connectivity and so on. Other goodies include a digital instrument cluster, telescopic front suspension and LED lighting.
As far as the price is concerned, the Zeppelin may cost around Rs. 1.5 lakh. This will make it an interesting choice amongst rivals such as the Bajaj Avenger 220 and the Suzuki Intruder 150. It will be positioned above the Apache RTR 200 4V and will fill the void of a cruiser in TVS line-up here.
