TVS Motor to launch two scooters in 2013

TVS Motor is planning to launch two new scooters in the current year and said it would foray into Indonesian scooter market with a new model. After Bajaj’s exit from the scooter segment, TVS Motors was marking its presence with its Scooty brand. The brand has been in the market for close to ten years and has seen several facelifts and upgrades. The Pep which is now serving the TVS with its Babylicious tag has been a hit amongst the girls owing to its smaller and sleeker design, besides its wide range of colour schemes available.

K N Radhakrishnan, chief executive of TVS Motor said that the scooter market will grow faster than two-wheeler industry, due to traffic congestion and Scooter is a family vehicle.
TVS present offerings in the scooter segments include Wego, Scooty Streak and Scooty Pep and two more will be added during the current year. With these launches we can target to increase our market share to 22% in 12 months, he told Analysts.

It may be noted, TVS scooter sales in third quarter dropped to 1.12 lakh units from 1.38 lakh, a year ago.
